    Jeremy’s practice encompasses intellectual property, privacy and media, and I.T litigation.  Many of Jeremy’s cases relate to confidential information and privacy.

    Jeremy is the barrister acting for and advising numerous individuals who are bringing phone hacking claims against the News of the World and Glenn Mulcaire.  Jeremy’s clients include Paul Gascoigne, Steve Coogan, Sky Andrew, George Galloway, and David Davies, as well as individuals who have been the victims of crime and their families.  Former clients include Max Clifford, Andy Gray and Gordon Taylor.

    Jeremy is also acting for individuals other claims against the press alleging interception of emails, surveillance, and the publication of private information.  Clients include Vanessa Perroncel, former members of the military intelligence services, and former members of the Metropolitan police.

    Increasingly, Jeremy is advising and acting for businesses who claim to have been subjected to electronic interception, including email interception and computer server interception, by their competitors.

    Notable Cases:

    Phone hacking claims:  Currently acting for a number of individuals including Paul Gascoigne, Steve Coogan, Sky Andrew, George Galloway, Kieren Fallon and David Davies in phone hacking claims against the News of the World and Glenn Mulcaire.

    Interception claims:  Currently acting for a number of individuals and businesses in respect of alleged email interception and interception of computer servers, both against the press and against other businesses.

    Martin Lewis (a.k.a. the Money Saving Expert) v. Client Connection Limited [2011] EWHC 1627 (Ch)  Acted for Mr Lewis alleging infringement of the trade mark MONEY SAVING EXPERT by reason of CCL’s oral use of ‘Money Claiming Expert’ over the telephone.  Summary judgment was entered pursuant to s.10(2), with an obiter finding that s.10(3) was also infringed.

    Premier Strategies Ltd and others v. EDF Tax LLP and others  Acted for PSL and 3 directors in a claim alleging interception of email messages by a competing firm of tax professionals. The claim settled with damages of £1.2 million for invasion of privacy.

    Skylet Andrew v. News Group Newspapers [2011] EWHC 734 (Ch); (2011) 108(14) LSG 22  Acted for Sky Andrew in an application for further non-party disclosure from the Metropolitan Police as part of the phone hacking litigation against the News of the World and Glenn Mulcaire.

    Stephen Coogan v. News Group Newspapers; Andy Gray v. News Group Newspapers and Glenn Mulcaire [2011] 2 WLR 1401; [2011] 2 All ER 725; [2011] EWHC 349 (Ch)  Acted for Stephen Coogan and Andy Gray (both phone hacking claims) in an application for an interim declaration that Glenn Mulcaire (a private investigator) was not entitled to rely upon the Privilege against Self-Incrimination by virtue of Section 72 of the Senior Courts Act 1984.

    Andy Gray v. News Group Newspapers [2010] EWHC 2893 (Ch)  Acted for Andy Gray in an application for non-party disclosure from the Metropolitan Police and the Information Commissioner’s Office (as part of an ongoing claim against the News of the World and Glenn Mulcaire alleging interception of voicemail messages, otherwise known as “phone hacking”).

    Softlanding Systems Inc. v. KDP Software Ltd [2010] EWCA Civ 1172; [2010] EWHC 326 (TCC) Acted for KDP in a 14-day trial concerning a software distribution agreement (middleware for the AS/400). The Court of Appeal considered discrete points about the entitlement to terminate the contract, and the credibility of two witnesses.

    Max Clifford v. News Group Newspapers [2010] EWHC 221 (Ch)  Acted for Max Clifford in a phone hacking claim against the News of the World and Glenn Mulcaire alleging interception of voicemail messages.

    Pocket Kings v. Commonwealth of Kentucky [2010] Ch 438; [2010] 2 WLR 1110; [2009] All ER (D) 205 [2009]; EWHC 2529 (Ch) Acted for Pocket Kings in an action concerning Kentucky's attempts to confiscate the domain name fulltiltpoker.com, raising issues of state immunity and enforcement of foreign orders.

    Gordon Taylor v. News Group Newspapers [2008]  Acted for Gordon Taylor in a phone hacking claim against the News of the World and Glenn Mulcaire alleging interception of voicemail messages.

    Winters v. Mishcon de Reya [2008] EWHC 2419 (Ch) Acted for Simon Winters in a claim concerning alleged breach of confidence and conflict of interest against his former solicitors.

    Premier Strategies Ltd v. Marra [2008] Acted for PSL in a claim alleging breach of confidence in respect of a tax structure.

    Baypride Ltd v. Virgin Megastores (later Zavvi) [2008] Acted for Baypride in a successful claim for breach of confidence in respect of a marketing proposition.

    Flashing Badge Co Ltd v. Groves [2007] EWHC 1372 (Ch); [2007] FSR 36; [2007] ECDR 17 – Considered the scope of section 51 of the CDPA in relation to design documents with pictures on them.

    Score Draw Ltd v. Finch [2007] EWHC 462 (Ch); [2007] FSR 20; [2007] ETMR 54; [2007] Bus. L.R. 864 – Whether the old emblem of the Brazilian football team was devoid of distinctive character.

    Score Draw Ltd v. Finch (Mann J.) The Times, 7 April 2007 – Whether there was a hearing in the Trade Marks Registry within the meaning of PD 52, para.9.1.

    Drawtreat Ltd v UK Fundraisers 2004 Ltd [2006] - A 10-day trial in the High Court concerning customer lists (database right and breach of confidence).

    J.R. French Ltd v Redbus LMDS Ltd [2006] FSR 13 - Patent and know-how licence, with issues including construction, rectification and breach of contract.

    NIC Instruments Ltd's Licence of Right (Design Right) Application [2005] RPC 1 - Licence of right dispute concerning bomb disposal equipment requiring the Comptroller to settle the royalty and other terms.

    A v B & C (Flitcroft) (Court of Appeal) [2003] QB 195 - Interim injunction concerning privacy of premiership footballer engaged in extra-marital affairs.

    Hi-Tech Autoparts Ltd v Towergate Two Ltd [2002] FSR 254 and (No.2) [2002] FSR 270  - Infringement of copyright in car mats, and whether rubber car mats were “engravings”.

    H v Associated Newspapers Ltd (Court of Appeal) [2002] EMLR 425 - Interim injunction concerning privacy of NHS dentist infected with HIV.

    Nonogram TM [2001] RPC 355 - Assignment of trade mark application.
