Hogarth Chambers is delighted to announce that, following completion of her pupillage in the spring, Becky Knott will become a tenant of Hogarth Chambers.
Becky has been a pupil since April 2023. During the just under three months of her second six, Becky has appeared as junior counsel in TrailerLogic LLC v (1) Roftek Limited and (2) Simon Knowles Rothwell (a patent infringement claim and validity counterclaim in the IPEC), sole counsel against leading and junior counsel in Ontro Ltd v Delta Air Lines, Inc. O/1083/23 (successfully bringing an appeal before the Appointed Person), Mr Selvarajah Jithenthrakumar v Mr Prasanna Sivanathan & Ors (appearing in the county court on behalf of the Claimant (adjourned)), and as junior counsel in Bond Turner v (1) Patrick Maginn and (2) McDermott Smith Law Ltd (successfully resisting an application for interim relief, including an imaging order, in a claim for breach of confidence).
Other fields of practice in which Becky gained experience during her first six are breach of contract (including advising on the likelihood of being successfully sued for inducement to breach of contract), copyright (drafting particulars of claim for a number of cases and attending a mediation on a large, international copyright case), trade marks and passing off (in the registry, the IPEC, and the High Court, and on appeal to the Appointed Person), and designs (working on a large, complex unregistered designs case involving contractual issues).
Before coming to the Bar, Becky was a qualified Trade Mark Attorney and Trade Mark Attorney Litigator, with over seven years of experience. She worked as an Associate at Barker Brettell LLP on a range of different cases and for different clients, including several household names. Becky spent a large amount of time working on contentious matters, in particular opposition, invalidity, and revocation actions before the EU IPO, and she appeared before the Company Names Tribunal.
Prior to joining Hogarth, Becky also spent time on secondment in the litigation and licensing team at Potter Clarkson LLP, where she worked on a number of patent matters. Becky was called to the Bar in November 2022.
